And this cache being asserted for Huehueteotl? Kind of an odd choice. The only reason why I can think of someone picking the Old, Old god as a candidate for water offerings are the references to Him as being “in the navel of the eorld, with the Blue and Yellow Waters.” That’s the only water connection I can think of for Him, and it’s in a very specific context I don’t know squat about. Hmm, I think I’m going to flip open Black and Red and start a thread on that.

And yeah, I’ve been pretty busy, sorry about that. Fuck, I hadn’t realized how long it’d been since I last updated. Gah. 12 hour days on the computer in the office working with text leaves me a little burnt out on spending more time doing that, even if it’s for pleasure. Still, I have a ridiculous amount of crap backed up in my mind that needs to get written and posted, I’ve been doing a ton of productive data acquisition and need to share…

There’s more to this story than I originally posted, and I’ve been trying to track down specifics all summer. Yes, it’s a cache of water related stuff, which makes me happy, but the dude in charge of the project is INSISTING that they were offerings made to Huehueteotl. No shit! I got this info from FAMSI’s Aztlan. Now, since when, anywhere in Mesoamerica, is there precedence for water related offerings being left with the Old God of Fire? NOWHERE!!! Why? Because, for some reason, this guy doesn’t like talking Tlaloc, which is something I’ve noticed. The Rain God always seems to be a passing reference than the topic of direct discussion in archaeological papers. Even then, the obvious explanation of Rain God relatedness is skirted in favor of a far off connection involving some other deity. Why is that? Any clues?

I thought I posted this about a year ago on another board. This was before we had B & R. The offering part wasn’t there, but the discovery of Ahuitzotl’s tomb and Tlatecuhtli were all in there.
